New Testament Greek courses come in two main varieties: grammar-translation and living language approaches.
Our approach is different.
In the Alpha-Omega Greek Academy, we start with the New Testament text itself.
You learn the vocabulary and grammar structures in context as you go, by reading something you already understand.
No flash cards.
No translation exercises
No tables of grammatical structures to memorize (unless you want to)
Just reading the New Testament and learning what you need to know to understand the passage.
You can read more about our teaching methodology here.
Greek is hard. And easy.
Greek is the basis of 25% of the English language. And a good portion of other European languages too.
The grammar is different, but many of the words are familiar, especially if you are reading the gospels.
Many courses spend so much time on the grammar, they make it harder than it needs to be.
Exposure to the grammar in context makes it much easier to become familiar with it, and to understand the most common grammatical forms.
If you want or need to learn the grammar in detail, there are plenty of courses that will teach you that.
If you want to read the New Testament, enjoy it and understand it - check out our courses.
The courses are self-paced so you can take all the time you need to do the activities and let the language really sink in.
Check the course page to see how many modules there are. You can estimate one week per module, but some people will go faster or slower.
Most people who think they aren't good at languages mean they didn't succeed when they were taught by the methods they use in schools.
Even if all you learn is the alphabet, you will vastly improve your ability to study the Bible using the tools available to you.
If learning Greek seems too hard, you can start with our mini-course on Using Greek (and Hebrew) Bible Study Tools.
If you can comfortably read a chapter of the New Testament already, then this course is not for you.
Check out the course syllabus on the course page. If you can read all the Module titles, it is too easy.
If you aren't sure if this course is right for you, send us a message.
Let us know what your background is and we can talk about it.
